Such a title might put some of you off from reading this post, but it's what I (Betsy) have been pondering a lot in the wee hours of the night while I'm doing anything to try and fall asleep. Thank you, jet lag. Last night from about 4-5 a.m. I was reading from "My Heart In His Hands" by Sharon James. It's a biography of the life of Ann Judson, the first American female missionary. Boy, do I ever need to hear from a woman who grasped with a tight grip the beauty of the sovereignty of God over all things when my mind is saturated with day-to-day concerns about things that become so big in my view, like the battles with cockroaches, ants, and labor/delivery (scary anywhere, honestly). Here's a short selection for your enjoyment and edification:
"I am a creature of God, and he has an undoubted right to do with me, as seemeth good in his sight. I rejoice, that I am in his hands -- that he is every where present, and can protect me in one place as well as in another. He has my heart in his hands, and when I am called to face danger, to pass through scenes of terror and distress, he can inspire me with fortitude, and enable me to trust in him. Jesus is faithful; his promises are precious. Were it not for these considerations, I should with my present prospects sink down in despair. . ." (37).
Amen, sister. Would that my attitude would willingly be such!
On a lighter note, we have been waging war with insects, as mentioned above. We got all of our bags unpacked enough to make our room suitable for living, and have been experimenting with cooking. Sonu preached on Sunday, and will speak again tonight at a cottage prayer meeting. We found a small local supermarket, which has Oreos (yay!) and Nutella, of all things.
