I'm humbled by the family friend who lives in a village and daily wakes to pray for me and my husband at 4 a.m. I'm humbled by the Bible College student whose passion is to go and serve in Bihar, a very difficult, hot state in India, where the only sure thing is persecution and little-to-no salary. I'm humbled by the family we visited today who lives in a tiny, two-room church building in a village and faithfully ministers there, having no bathroom in their house--instead using a makeshift, outdoor, 3-sided shelter no more than 4.5 feet tall which is constructed from sticks and old rice bags. I'm humbled by my sweet, serving husband who washed the dishes tonight (and helps me with the same every night) so that his tired, pregnant wife could take a bucket bath and get to bed earlier.
These sweet servants of God humble me by how they are willing to go lower, lower, lower in serving others and exalting Jesus, concerning themselves less about their own needs than those of the people God has put in their paths. They live the truth John the Baptist spoke of: He must increase, and I must decrease. May God grant grace to me to follow their example as they follow after Christ.
