Humbled, pt. 2

It's my (Wayne) turn now :)

Philippians 2 (English & Tamil)
I'm humbled too . . . by the life of Jesus. I often compare life in India with life in the US, and complain, within myself, that it is so difficult to serve with so many cockroaches, mosquitoes, power outages, expensive middlemen, unwritten road rules, and uncomfortable surroundings. I pat myself on the back for making such a sacrifice in coming back to India to serve. But then, I look up to my Master, and I'm humbled! I am humbled by my King Jesus, 'who, though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men, and being found in human form, humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross' (Philippians 2:6-8). He was born in humble surroundings, since there was no room in the inn. He ministered in difficult, uncomfortable, and far from perfect surroundings. The teachers of His own Word were working against Him. I'm humbled! In light of His sacrifice, my less-comfortable-than-US-but-far-better-than-most-of-the-rest-of-the-world life in India is a mere inconvenience.

Here Betsy is asking the students to fly away with her to a higher place. Just kidding! It was just poor timing on my part as a photographer. Here, she is teaching a beginner level English class at the Bible College.
I'm humbled also by my beloved wife. She has left familiar faces and places to come and serve the King with me at this beautiful, but new, place, even in her pregnancy. And even when she is tired, she is so kind to her husband (who has 'How To Boil Eggs' saved to his recipe folder), and cooks for us without complaining. After coming to India, I have had the privilege to watch and hear her teach. Well, for an Indian, who doesn't get excited much, all I can say is, "Wow, what a beautiful gift!" God has given her this beautiful gift, and in His abundant mercy, He has given me this beautiful you (Betsy) :)
